A new blog to visit!

I'd love to introduce you to a new blog that just started today! Heather is one of my RMS (Rate my Space- HGTV) friends. She and I both live in the Midwest and share a love of beagles and decorating. I think her blog will be really fun.

Rub a dub dub.....out with the tub!

Several posts ago, I mentioned that we were thinking of remodeling our bathroom. Well, we are on our way! The jacuzzi tub is going away and we are doing a larger shower. Everything is moving around. We can't replace everything. I am thinking that I'll paint the cabinets and change the hardware. We'll add new counters, tile, lighting and shower. My husband and friends will do all the work.

We don't live in a big house. Hopefully, the new layout will function better for us.

Here are some BEFORE pics. Bye bye big tub. We don't use it very often and it takes up so much space. Bye bye Hollywood lights! Bye bye carpet in the bathroom! What were they thinking? (No, we didn't build this house.)

We thought this tub was a lighter weight material. Big surprise...............It is some kind of cultured marble and weighs 400 lbs! It took 4 guys to get it out today!

Have any of you remodeled a bath recently? Any great ideas you'd like to share? Any tips on painting the cabinets? The cabinets will be in a single run on the wall where the tub is now. I don't know what kind of mirrors to do. Any suggestions welcome.

Bob's boots!

Bob's Boots

Bob always wanted a pair of authentic cowboy boots. He's an elderly man and figures he's not getting any younger. So seeing some on sale one day, he buys them, wears them home, walking proudly. He walks into the house and says to his wife: "Notice anything different about me?' Margaret looks him over, "Nope" she says.

Frustrated Bob storms off into the bathroom,undresses,and walks back into the room completely naked except for the boots. Again, he asks, a little louder this time, "Notice anything different NOW?"
Margaret looks up and says, "Bob, what's different? It's hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday,and it'll be hanging down again tomorrow." Furious, Bob yells, "AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT'S HANGING DOWN, MARGARET?'"

'Nope', she replies.

Bob Yells 'CAUSE IT'S LOOKIN' AT MY NEW BOOTS" To which Margaret replies... "Shoulda bought a hat, Bob, Shoulda bought a hat."

Obedient wife?

There was a man who had worked all his life, had saved all of his money, and was a real miser when it came to his money. Just before he died, he said to his wife...'When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the afterlife with me.' And so he got his wife to promise him, with all of her heart, that when he died, she would put all of the money into the casket with him. Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sitting there - dressed in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, and just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, 'Wait just a moment!' She had a small metal box with her; she came over with the box and put it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down and they rolled it away. So her friend said, 'Girl, I know you were not foolish enough to put all that money in there with your husband.' The loyal wife re plied, 'Listen, I'm a Christian; I cannot go back on my word. I promised him that I was going to put that money into the casket with him.' You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with him! 'I sure did,' said the wife. 'I got it all together, put it into my account, and wrote him a check.... If he can cash it, then he can spend it.'

Different takes...............

I like to use things in my home for different purposes other than for what they were intended. My throw, in the picture below, is actually a wool drapery panel that I found on a shopping trip one day. I thought the color and pattern really complimented my throw pillow and my red accent wall. Red is one of my favorite things!


The light below is actually an outdoor light fixture. I find that they can actually be a lot less expensive than interior fixtures, especially when bought at a local home store as opposed to a fancy lighting store. I like the golden seed type glass in it. It gives a nice glow at night.

An extra wine rack holds a few of my magazines. I wasn't using it so I thought I'd try it with something else.
Over the years, I've had many different uses for things. I used a tablecloth with clip on rings as a fabric shower curtain. I've used shower curtains to make fabric wall art. I padded a fabric headboard with the smooth side of one of those egg crate mattress pads. Then I covered it with sheets that matched my comforter. I made art panels for behind the bed out of plywood, batting and fabric. I've used a heavy round trash can as side table by adding a plywood round top and covering it with fabric.

What different uses for things have you done?

I adore doors!

I'm not sure when I became interested in pictures of doors but I find them interesting. The one in the upper left was taken in Italy. No, I didn't go there. Darn. My friend did and he took this with the water flowing up to the doorway. It also has cute window boxes. The two center ones are from Spain. The upper right one with the lace curtains is from France. The lower left and right ones are from Italy too.

I have also collected some calendar pictures of doors that need to be framed.

This one came from an art fair, as well. I thought it was very unusual. My friends say it looks a little scary. The more I look at it, it is kinda scary. It's never made it to the wall.

Talkin' toile!

I love toile! BJ over at Sweet Nothings was talking about how she loved country French style. I have always loved the look and especially the fabrics. Here are a few pictures from BHG and Horchow using toile in different ways. Want to learn more about it?
Toile (pronounced twahl) means "cloth" in French.










Below is how I used it in my laundry room to make the plain cabinets more interesting. I just took foam board and covered it with toile fabric. It's attached to the cabinet fronts with some removable poster mounting tape. When I get tired of the look, I can just take them down. I lined a couple of baskets with leftover toile and a check fabric.
