Need your opinion..........

We are thinking of doing a little remodel in our master bath. We currently have a large jetted tub and a really dinky shower. Most of the time we don't have time to take a bath so often the dirty clothes hamper ends up sitting in the tub. The tub takes up a lot of space. My H wants to eliminate the tub and build a larger shower where the tub sits. He also wants to make a small closet for him on the end of the bathroom where the current shower is plus a little more space. I am so torn. I'd love a big shower but wonder about resale, not that we are planning a move. I'm thinking resale would be OK since we have another tub in the house. I also like the idea of a closet for him because that would give me the whole walk-in closet in our bedroom. But.............would I miss my jets???? Should we/could we put some jets in the shower for a reasonable price?

Got any good ideas for showers? We would do some sort of tile walls. I want a bench. I want an inset for shampoo etc.

Hi Nan...well here is my perspective since you asked - ha! I have 3 bathrooms in my two story, the bathroom on the main level has a toilet, small shower, and sink. Then we have the main bath on the 2nd floor with a tub...etc...our master bath has a larger shower, toilet and sink area...I can tell you I would not change one thing about it. I have never taken a bath in this house and we've been here for three years...I'm just too busy. My sister has a huge master bathroom with the works...and she tells me she dusts the big tub because they never use it. So, I think it would not affect resale since you already have one tub in the house.

The plates are from Marshall's...I say go and get some they were only $3.99 a plate...and I can tell you that pictures don't do them justice.

Good luck on your remodel, it sounds wonderful! Can't wait to see what you'll decide.

I have 3 bathrooms too...lower level is just a 1/2 bath with sink and toilet...theres a bathroom between the kids room with tub/shower etc and in my master I have a HUGE bathroom with separate shower and soaker tub which I think I've used maybe 3 times in the past 2 years!! LOL I would love to have a BIGGER shower instead of the tub with somewhere to sit and shelves for smelly things!!

Oh, boy, how exciting, Nan. I love remodels!
My thoughts on all of it:
With a tub in your house, I don't think you will miss the other one at all, even the jets. The beautiful showers of today have the body heads coming out of one side, my daughter redid their shower and it is HUGH. Bench, insets for shampoos and etc. 2 large shower heads so that two can shower at a time (if you can do this, bet you would LOVE it). Daughter has a beautiful, vintage tub that she soaks in about once a year!!!!
I myself am a tub person but hubby couldn't live without his shower...most everyone showers now. I don't think it would hurt the resale value one little bit.
How exciting!
hugs, bj

I think it is a great idea to make a bigger shower especially if you already have bath tub in house.
Maybe you could make a great spa shower!?!

I'm with Suzy....go for the works in the shower and the extra closet. As long as you have one tub you should be OK for resale. Everyone always loves having more storage....so that would be a resale plus.

Happy Decision Making :-) Rosie

Nan,

Sorry, my mistake, the plates are from TJ - I just checked the label. Let me know if you want me to get some for you, they are $3.99 each. I'd be glad to ship them to you, just let me know.
Hugs,
Rose

Good Morning Nan,
Well, it sounds like another project you have in store for you. Since I only have a bath and a half, I would want a bigger bathroom with everything in it. LOL. I would love to have my own bathroom with a jacuzzi in it. I have seen on HGTV, the House Hunter Shows, where they have a separate larger shower and then the bathtub in it. I usually just take a shower, but if I had a jetted tub, I would use it. That's just me tho. Good Luck on whatever you decide. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

What a great remodel this will be...we love it when the room is personalized to your needs... and if there is another tub on that same level, a large shower and extra closet space may be perceived as even better for resale!!

There are so many great spa shower set ups with wall jets, you might discover a whole new shower experience!! Dual head, rain showers, wall jets...mmm...sounds so relaxing!

I would do whatever pleases you and don't worry about the resale.
I love showers myself and would rather have one over a bath!

Oh, I have to disagree with everyone else so far! I would NOT take a tub out - especially one with jets! I LOVE long baths and would feel like I was in Heaven if I had a jetted tub. Of course since you don't use it much and your hubby would like - and could use - a closet and a bigger shower, why don't you ship the tub to me and we will figure out where to put it! Now there's a thought!

Seriously, though, I don't think it will make a lot of difference for resale since there is a tub in the house. I'm sure you would love having the bigger shower. And more closet space.

I saw as long as you have one tub in the house, go for the bigger/better shower and closet.

I am struggling with the same decision!! I have a jetted tub, used once or twice a year... I would love to have a spa shower, like described by K and K.... could you get a jetted hot tub to add to the desirability of your home's resale value?
